Hawks Capture Georgian Bay Title!
The McQueen-Vue Paving Hawks defeated the Stayner Cyclones 3-1 Wednesday evening to claim the Georgian Bay Championship and conclude the 2012-2013 season. It was a fitting way to end the season given the disappointment the players felt after coming up short in the OMHA Finals. The boys came out a little sluggish but put it all together as they dominated the play despite only scoring 3 goals. The Cyclone tender came up big on a number of occasions as the Hawks peppered the net. Bennet Wright, Tyler Fish and Brendan Danaher scored for the Hawks. Ryan McMullin chipped in with 2 helpers while singles went Jamie Damignani, Chris Brown, Eric Lalonde and Ewan Botelho. At the beginning of the season, the team goals were clear; a tournament victory, the Georgian Bay crown and an OMHA title. The Hawks captured the Huronia Tournament in October and lost a close one to the Barrie Colts in the Silver Stick Finals. They fell to Dorchester in the OMHA finals but claimed the league title. So, as the singer Meatloaf would say..."2 out of 3 ain't bad". While success is typically measured in wins and losses, the boys had an opportunity this season to develop their skills both on and off the ice. There is no doubt that these Hawks are better athletes, hockey players and young men than when they hit the ice last September during tryouts.....See you at the rink!

Dragons Capture OMHA Title
After splitting the first 2 games with the Dorchester Dragons last weekend, the McQueen-Vue Paving Hawks were confident as they headed down the 401 to Dorchester this past weekend. In games 3 and 4, the Dragons continued to play a physical game with the hope of eliminating the Hawk's speed. Game 3 was a tight game with limited scoring opportunities for both teams. The Hawks took the early lead on a goal by Cole Bowhey. Kevin Shuttleworth and Ryan McMullin collected the helpers. The Dragons would get the equalizer in the second and scored the game winner in the third frame. With their backs against the wall, the boys came out with a strong effort in game #4 only to fall behind 1-0 in the second period despite outplaying the Dragons. The Hawk's would even the match in the second on a goal by Kevin Shuttleworth. Jamie Damignani collected the helper. The Hawks had several great scoring opportunities but could not sneak one past the Dorchester tender. As fate would have it, the Dragons connected for 2 goals in the second en route to a 3-1 victory and the OMHA championship. On this weekend, the boys came up a little short but should take pride in the journey that got them to the finals. The Hawks will attempt to complete the season on a high note as they host the Styaner Cyclones on Wednesday evening for the Georgian Bay Championship.
